On a trip to St Charles last October, I saw Hotel Baker for the first time. It was from a distance along the Fox River trail. The mission was immediately clear; it was to capture the elegance of the historic architecture and charm of the site where it lives.
It opened in 1928 and many famous performers of the 20th century have played there including Louis Armstrong, Tommy Dorsey, Guy Lombardo, and Lawrence Welk.
It stands beside the Fox River at Main Street bridge in downtown St. Charles where the old Haines Mill burned.
It had many advanced features for the time like a dance floor with over two thousand lights powered by the dam from the old mill.
